How It Started

The Beginning of Pedal Forward Kenya

In life, some of the most rewarding journeys start with a simple idea. For me, the story of Pedal Forward Kenya began during a holiday in Nairobi, Kenya—a place that would soon become a second home. It was here, in the vibrant neighborhood of Karen, that I met Vincent, a dynamic entrepreneur with a passion for sports and community development.

Vincent ran a thriving sports shop and organized weekly running events that brought people together in the spirit of fitness and camaraderie. Our shared passion for endurance sports, particularly triathlon and cycling, sparked an instant connection. Over coffee and countless conversations, we shared ideas and stories about our journeys in sports and life.

One day, Vincent suggested we repair my old road bike, which had been gathering dust due to a crack in its carbon frame. This wasn’t just any bike—it had been with me through years of training and countless kilometers on the road. Seeing it restored to its former glory right here in Kenya was a turning point.

A Vision Emerges

As we worked on the bike, a bigger vision began to take shape. What if we could do this for others? What if discarded bikes in Europe, destined for landfills, could be repurposed, repaired, and given new life in Kenya? We realized this wasn’t just about bikes; it was about creating opportunities.

Together, we envisioned a project that would not only provide affordable bikes but also foster sustainability and empower local communities. Our idea was to train young Kenyans in bike repair and maintenance, equipping them with valuable skills and creating jobs. Beyond that, we wanted to promote cycling as both a means of transportation and a sport that could inspire future athletes.

Building the Foundation

With my background as a Finance Manager and a triathlon instructor, and Vincent’s entrepreneurial spirit, we knew we had the tools to make this vision a reality. We named the project Pedal Forward Kenya, a reflection of our belief in moving forward—both literally and figuratively.

From sourcing bikes in Europe to building a team in Kenya, every step has been a journey of learning and growth. It’s been humbling to see how a simple idea can create ripples of change, touching lives in ways we never imagined.

What’s Next?

Pedal Forward Kenya is more than just a project; it’s a movement. It’s about sustainability, community empowerment, and the transformative power of cycling. As we continue to grow, our mission remains clear: to create opportunities, inspire athletes, and connect people across continents.

I invite you to join us on this journey—whether it’s through donating a bike, supporting our athletes, or simply sharing our story. Together, we can pedal forward toward a brighter, more sustainable future.
